A peaceful location on Carpenters Farm in Great Bentley, 20 minutes’ drive from Colchester
With the feel of leafy suburban living coupled with quiet countryside, Carpenters Farm holiday cottages are in the hamlet of Aingers Green, near the aptly named Essex Sunshine Coast. We have a reputation for being one of the driest parts of the country – great news if you love exploring and being outdoors!
We are one mile from Great Bentley which is home to the largest village green in England, all 43 acres of it! Here you can visit our beautiful church with its Norman nave and bell tower, or watch football and village cricket. The local pub in walking distance, serves great meals and has a secure garden area or let the children have their fun at the playground and zip wire. The village has a mainline train station to London Liverpool Street, a bus service to nearby towns, a hairdressers and beauty therapists, a butchers, delicatessen, Chinese takeaway and Tesco express.
The sandy beaches and seaside resorts of Clacton on Sea are approximately 5 miles away with arcades, rides and entertainment galore in and around the pier area. A little further away, Frinton on Sea a little has a more traditional feel and is very popular especially with its long lined high street of independent shops and cafes. Just 10 miles from the farm brings you to Colchester, the oldest recorded town in England. A typical large town with shopping and entertainment hubs but one which also boasts a fantastic award-winning Roman castle surrounded by stunning gardens, adventure play area, bandstand, café and adventure golf.
Another gem no family would want to miss, would be a day out at the amazing Colchester Zoo. We are so lucky to have this excellent family attraction on our doorstep, it certainly delights all ages all year round. A little further towards the Suffolk border is the quaint and famous villages of Dedham and Flatford where John Constable painted his famous works and where meandering river walks and boating trips can be found.
For shopping enthusiasts, we have designer discounted outlets at Braintree, Freeport and Clacton, or take the 45-minute train to Stratford Westfields; or just a little further for the highlights of the nation’s capital, London itself.
With plenty of public footpaths, country parks and coastal paths, nature lovers and natural history lovers will not be disappointed to visit the several National Trust properties within a short drive of Carpenters Farm cottages.
We hope you enjoy your stay!
